Three Kinds of Academic Essays

An essay is, as the name suggests, a written piece that give the author’s argument, but the precise definition isn’t clear that covers all the elements of a letter, an essay, a newspaper, an article, pamphlets, or even the short story. Essays tend to be categorized as formal and informal on the basis of how they’re written. This means that a formal essay will usually be written in a structured manner, using proper syntax and grammar. A casual essay may be written in simple language, but may be written with poor grammar. There are formal forms of essays which are utilized often even by people who aren’t as proficient writers.

The most popular kind of essay is the argument essay, also referred to as the argumentative essay. These essays are usually composed in the form of argument. They are written to support one side of a discussion and use literary devices such as similes and metaphors to great advantage. There is usually an overwhelming feeling that polemics are a part of the human condition. The debate can be separated from personal opinions or opinions on any subject. To be used in college courses, essays must meet specific requirements which have been set by the department of education, or be completed under the direction of an experienced instructor.

Another type of essay is the descriptive. Also called the narrative essay. Instead of a lengthy outline of a subject, this kind of essay will provide information from a variety of sources in a simple, concise manner. It is a storytelling essay, which presents a central concept, character, or event in a narrative style. A lot of colleges and universities need detailed explanations of facts and figures. They also need an end that outlines the strengths, weaknesses and strengths of the subject, and the intended use of the information.

The argumentative essay is the third most popular kind of essay. It is generally more complex than the descriptive essay. Argumentative essays are written in support of a central thesis and are usually written in response to. Students should take the time to study arguments from both supporters and opponents in their essay. This will enable students to apply their understanding of the topic to answer “What is the evidence?” A solid argument is essential.

The comparative essay is the fourth and most popular kind of essay. Comparative essays compare a particular object or set of objects with one another, and then discuss how they are similar or different. They require thorough research to determine which facts and figures are relevant to the argument they are defending. The most important aspect of every comparative essay is the conclusion, which presents the conclusions of the comparison.

Other kinds of essays required for college credit include the argumentative and descriptive. Argumentative essays require that the writer simply present a position that is usually based on personal experiences or a study of science, and use either personal experience or a supposed scientific evidence to back the argument. Descriptive essays are like argumentative essays, but they contain a narrative or description of something that has been experienced or observed. Both types of academic essays–arguments and descriptions–contend about the subject of the essays, and the aim is to persuade the reader that the conclusion they draw is correct. Sometimes, an academic writer might choose to write both an argument or an explanation. This could be the subject of separate essays.

Writing essays requires the author to consider a variety of approaches for writing the work. They shouldn’t just contain the main ideas but should also contain additional information to back the ideas. The student should be able after completing an essay to justify his/her views using additional facts that are valid. However, he/she must always aim to leave the reader feeling that their/her view was the most accurate.

Students should avoid the mistake of focusing too much on the expression of their thoughts, as this can often lead to oversimplification–a common problem among students who attempt to write persuasive essays. Instead, they should attempt to give a detailed description of their thoughts, backed by research that is valid. A descriptive essay might not necessarily be more persuasive than an argumentative essay, however, it will definitely be more interesting for the reader.
